Any anime stores in Philadelphia

Depending on where you live in the city, I am not really sure how any of the stores downtown are as I only go to any of them periodically since I live in the Northeast section. My comic store of choice is Wade’s Comic Madness in Levittown. They don’t really have any anime stuff, but they do get in some anime figures and I am sure they can order you anything like that which is distributed in this country through Diamond or AAA Anime Distribution or whoever. The best part about the store is that the staff leaves you alone unlike many comic stores where they hound you. They also have a few 50% off everything sales three or four times a year which makes for a great time to pick up some figures for a cheaper price. I never miss those sales.

Otherwise, the best store (I say this loosely) is probably Atomic City Comics (640 South Street). They get a decent amount of new manga releases and have a funky mishmash of merchandise (some toys, art books, and the like).

Brave New Worlds comic store, a bit off Market Street at 45 North 2nd Street, is a nice upscale shop offer the largest selection of anime/manga related figures in the city (although, it mostly the stuff being offered through Diamond Distributors).

There an oddball video store whose name I forget (it changed a couple times) around 9th or 8th and Chestnut. They get some import toys, model kits,Hermes Sunglasses, and bootleg anime CDs. They sell bootleg DVDs, as well.

In terms of manga, while they severely cut back on their variety, I still shop at Fat Jack (2006 Sansom Street). It a great store doesn stock like it used to (which is understandable).

Unfortunately, for import manga and cool merch, other than buying online, it generally requires headingup to New York (which, while inconvenient, is always a fun trip).

If the toy store you’re thinking of was a cramped second story space, then it’s probably Toy Tokyo (second floor, 121 second avenue): website. It a bit out of the way and kinda pricey, but yeah, a great store.

Otherwise, you could be talking about Image Anime (242 West 30th Street): website but a decent collection of stuff.

You really should checkout the huge new Kinokuniya (1073 Avenue of the Americas, between 40th 41st Streets) near Bryant Park of manga, of course,Replica Belts, but the store size allows it to pack tons of other related merchandise.

Book Off (14 East 41st Street) is a secondhand store and fabulous place to find imported manga and CDs. They also have some anime and games.

Forbidden Planet (840 Broadway) is a really great comic store, lots of manga, some related anime merchandise, but a really big selection of anime figures and toys. Toy Tokyo and Image Anime have more collectibleoriented stock, but this is the place to go for newer figures and whatnot.

And if you wanna try another decent comic shop, Midtown Comics (200 West 40 Street) has a nice manga section and OK selection of newer toys and figures.

The name Toy Tokyo sounds very familiar but I looked at pics online of the store and it didn’t look familiar. Also, I don’t think it was Image Anime either. Who knows. maybe they aren’t even there anymore.

The last time I was there I most definitely went to Kinokuniya. But, from what you are saying, it looks like they are even better now than several years ago, so I will have to go there again. Of course, the location that I went to was the one that is not far from Rockefeller Center I believe.
